UNFORTUNATELY WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY NPWS THAT DUE TO PRESENCE OF BUSHFIRES IN THE BEMBOKA AREA , ALL OF WADBILIGA NP IS CLOSED.

This time we will explore the approach from the south side rather than the usual track to the lookout.

GRADE: Easy to Medium. Although a fairly short distance the going is quite scrubby

DISTANCE: 6 kms round trip for the walk, 42 kms drive each way.

RISKS:  River crossing, snakes, bush fires, falls in untracked walking in casuarina scrub, steep decent to base of falls.

GEAR:  Sun hat, sun screen, gloves, lunch, jacket if it’s cool, swimmers if it’s hot, boots, long trousers, lunch, water and snacks. Long trousers and stout boots are essential due to casuarina heath lands ie scratchy on bare legs.

Meet in Cooma North Shopping centre to travel out there.

DESCRIPTION:    This is not a long walk, however, the going will be slow, yet the views will be stunning. After carpooling and briefing at Cooma North shops, we will drive 42 kms to the Cascades in the Wadbilliga National Park. Starting by heading east from Cooma through Numeralla, onwards to Countegany, turning left on to gravel, then right towards the Cascades. Cars will be ok but 4WDs will be better to Cascades camp site, especially if it’s rained. The walk starts by crossing the Tuross River then walking east, well south of river through casuarina heathland for about 2 kms before turning north for the Tuross falls. We may attempt to get to the bottom of the falls if safe to do so. The final descent will be optional.
