Investigate the site of the old Burrungubuggee Hut, Snowy Adit reclamation site and Burrungubugge River Aqueduct  – led by Peter Davis

This easy day walk visits a fascinating but little known piece of the early Snowy Scheme infrastructure. The Burrungubuggee River Aqueduct was constructed some 52 years ago. It is minute in comparison to the major works of the scheme yet is the 8th hydro power station. It uses a 50mm diameter drive pipe to run its tiny turbine which powers the operations of the site. The walk will be on Snowy access tracks and the plan is to view the reclamation works on the massive spoil dump which resulted from the construction of the 23.5km Eucumbene – Snowy tunnel via the intermediate access tunnel which is known as an adit. The site of the nearby stockman’s hut Constance’s Hut (burnt down in 1984 and also the re-built and re-named Burrungubgge hut in 2003),  is also within easy walking distance. Constance’s Hut was one of four known huts in the immediate area.

More details of exact distances and timings TBA. We will also be passing the abandoned Island Bend township site and airstrip, which are likewise interesting to explore. Contact Peter for more information.
