This will be a day trip to explore the region south of Mt Tate.

Prime area of interest will be the ridge line over Mt Anton and Mt Anderson.

We will start from Guthega village and make our way 3km to Illawong Hut bridge over Snowy River, and then climb up the the ridge line at north side of Mt Twynam (approx. 3km). Turn right and follow the ridge line approx 4km till we join the route to Mt Tate. Return either down the old ski tow pole line (4km) or back to Illawong bridge via Tate East Ridge Approx 4km and then back on main track to Guthega (3km).

Difficulty; Grade 4. Almost all off track walking. No significant river crossings other than the suspension bridge.

Distance either 18km or 21km day.

Hazards; Exposure, due to being above treeline and on high ridges. Altitude is above 2000m for much of the route.
