Settlers Track Walk

Settlers Track Walk

Geehi Bushwalking Club – Settlers Track Walk, 17 June 2019

The Historic Settlers Track walk at the southern end of Namadgi National Park was the destination for the Geehi Club. The 9 km track took in Brayshaw’s Homestead, Waterhole Hut and the palatial Westerman’s Homestead. Despite a cool start the enthusiastic group of 10 headed out to discover how labour-intensive life was for our early settlers. We marvelled at the drop log fences used to build stock yards and the techniques used to keep out the cold; newspaper and lathe and plastered walls. The level of skill taken by KHA and ACT Parks to restore the residential buildings and the chimneys, both wooden and stone, was appreciated.
