Pallaibo Track walk

Pallaibo Track walk

On Sunday 8th December, 13 of us met at the Thredbo River Picnic Ground for our Christmas walk and picnic.  We organised a car shuffle to Sawpit Creek which is where we commenced our walk.

We were very lucky with the weather, fine but not too hot – perfect for enjoying a relaxing walk back to the picnic ground.  The track was very good and we were able to take our time and enjoy being out in nature, looking at everything on our way.

We saw so many beautiful and colourful wild flowers and interesting trees and plants.

One of the highlights of the walk was when we saw a mother kangaroo and her joey quietly grazing in the grass.  They were nice enough to pose for some great photos for us.

At one point on the trail Jamie suddenly caught sight of some movement in the bush just ahead of us and it was some deer! I was quite surprised as although Jamie had told me there were definitely deer in the area I wasn’t expecting that we’d see them on our walk.  Quite appropriate for our Christmas walk though ☺️

We were able to hear and see some cicadas during the walk which was interesting as although we weren’t that far from Cooma, the cicadas in the Sawpit Creek area are a lot smaller than the ones that can be found around the Cooma area.

We found an interesting bug on the trunk of a tree and we think it may have been a very young cicada of this smaller variety.

After meeting a snake on our recent walk to Rainbow Lake I was keeping a very keen eye out for another one but I am very pleased and relieved to report that the only reptilians that we saw had legs.  We saw a few different varieties of lizards at various stages of our walk which was interesting and Jamie got some wonderful photos of them.

The walk was a little over 5.5km and we finished back at the Thredbo River Picnic Ground where we enjoyed sitting down and sharing a lovely picnic lunch together.

Thank you everyone for your good company, it was a very enjoyable time

Merry Christmas 🎄
