We plan to start from a point 32 kilometres north of Cooma on the Jones Plain Road, 2 km south of the Alum Creek crossing. Walking up a gentle rise in open country then a steep decent into the Murrumbidgee River gorge, we arrive at the beautiful unspoilt river some 800m west of the road. From here we head south following the river for about 10 kilometres, with a possible 2 km shortcut if desired. If the water is low, then walking in the river is easiest for some of this, but only knee deep so suitable boots are essential. We finish with a 170 m climb out of the gorge, back into open country for a 3 km walk back to our pre-positioned vehicles.
