LEADER: Frank Bakker

GRADE: 3, All of this walk is on made tracks.

DISTANCE: 13km

RISKS: Variable Weather

GEAR: Day packs with water, lunch and snacks, spare clothing.  comfortable boots.

MEETING POINT: Cooma North Shopping Centre car park at 8.00 am.

COST: Car sharing expenses only

DESCRIPTION:

This walk will follow the recently completed path starting from Charlottes Pass. It is part of the Snowy Mountains Alpine Walk which will soon also be extended to join the Thredbo Valley track at Lake Crackenback (a possible walk later this year). It may also be added to future editions of our Snowy Mountains Walks book.

After dropping a car off at Perisher Valley we will drive to Charlottes Pass to commence our walk. This car can help us pick up cars from the start point when we finish, saving us the need to walk back.

To begin with the walk crosses the broad Spencers Creek valley before rising into the tree line away from the ski touring route. It then follows the ridge line of the Rams Head Range and we will get some great views back towards the main range and also over the south and east to the Thredbo River valley and beyond.

After crossing the headwaters of Betts creek we rise again toward the Porcupine Rocks area. This also has some spectacular rock formations and more great views, making this a most enjoyable walk.

Expect to take 4 – 5 hours to thoroughly appreciate it.
