We are now planning to have the camp out weekend at Oldfield’s Hut in December after being washed out in October.

This will be a good base camp for us to visit Bimberi Peak. Which is actually on the border of ACT so it is in Namadgi National Park.

Friday 09 December 3pm. Meet at Cooma North shops car park.

Depart for Adaminaby, then on to Tantangara Rd turnoff, then over the Murrumbidgee R below Tantangara Dam, and on to the locked gate at the end of Pocket Rd. Leave cars there and walk to Oldfields Hut, 3 km, along fire trail.

Sat 10th. Walk along Murrays Gap trail, to Murray’s Gap, then turn north for Bimberi Peak. Lunch at the top, and return the same way. 14km, moderate grade.

Overnight at Oldfields Hut

Sunday 11th.

Walk back to cars. side trip to Pocket’s Hut for those interested .

Return to Cooma

GRADE: Day 1 and 3 Moderate, Day 2 Moderate to Hard.

DISTANCE: About 21 Kilometres over 3 days.

RISKS: Hot and Cold Weather, tripping, snakes. Off track walking; be prepared for significant regrowth post 2019-2020 bushfires.

WHAT TO BRING:

All camping gear and food. Including Tent as we are not sure of the hut condition or availability.

Wet weather gear (eg) raincoat, sunscreen and sturdy footwear. Gaiters too may be useful.
