The Geehi bushwalking Club is planning a walk to the 42m high Tuross Falls.

This is in place of the previously listed walk to Yankee Hat, the walking paths to which will be closed till next year.

The 47 km vehicle journey east from Cooma via Numeralla will take approximately 50 minutes before we arrive at the Wadbilliga National Park Cascades Camping Area for the commencement of the walk.

The walk will be in two stages with the first being across undulating granite country on the southern side of the Tuross River. This route used to be heavy going through dense casuarina nana heathlands which obscured granite boulders and wombat holes, however, the whole area was burnt in the 2019/20 Black Summer fires. The landscape is now recovering with the upside being that walking may be easier. This leg is only two kilometres each way and takes us to the top of a dramatic spur which affords views down into the base of the falls. There is potential for a descent to the base of the falls but the decision on this will be made on the day. Depending on the weather, walkers will have the opportunity for a swim and a slide at the Cascades on the return leg.

A second stage will be from the camping area along what was the track to the NPWS lookout. The previous wooden structure was destroyed by the fires but is being rebuilt and the stunning views towards the coast and of the falls from the north remain. This leg is also about two kilometres each way and again over undulating granite country on walking defined track.

Distance: The total walking distance for the day will be 8 km allowing plenty of time for swims and enjoyment of the bush.

Grade: 3 – Moderate as there will be some off track sections in the first part.

Meeting Place: Cooma North Shopping Centre car park (South side).
