On this activity we will meet at dusk and go out into the un-known.

Meet at Cooma North shops carpark at 7:00pm for car pooling, then drive 12 kms north on Shannons Flat Rd to Yalcowinna. The house is on the left with a red letterbox. Take the left hand driveway.

The plan is to introduce very basic navigation by the stars, then put this into practice with a short hike on farm tracks. We will also learn how to keep safe whilst walking in different terrain at night.

We will have three thermal image devices which can be used to practice identifying and studying wildlife in the dark without lights.

Suggested gear is walking boots, long trousers, a light jacket if its cool, dark coloured or camouflage  clothing (preferably not blue as some wildlife have excellent ultraviolet night vision). Ideally a red dimmable headlamp but don’t buy one specially and a small white light. Walking poles will aid in building confidence if you’ve got them.

Difficulty:  grade 3, Easy.

Duration:  2 – 3 hours.
