Mount Dromedary (Gulaga) walk starts near La Galette café in Tilba Tilba. The Gulaga site is a place of cultural origin for the Yuin people, with the mountain regarded as a symbolic mother figure providing the basis for the Aboriginal peoples spiritual identity.

It’s about a 5 hour return trip on a mostly shaded on an old 4WD or light rail track with views along the walk however very little at the Summit.

As the drive is 2 hours each way we have explored the option of staying overnight prior to and after the walk. The nearest towns are Tilba Tilba and Central Tilba with a great cheese factory and historic little village which is definitely worth  a stroll. There are lots of accommodation options in the area. Alternatively we have organised a deal at the Wallaga Lake BIG4 Holiday Park where you can stay Friday and Saturday night in a 2 bedroom Villa for roughly $250 total each couple if interested. Lakeside tent and caravan camping sites are also available. You will need to independently book in advance.

The Wallaga Lake Holiday Park also has the great Camel Rock Brewery Restaurant where we can grab a meal together on the Saturday night for those interested.

BIG4 Wallaga Lake is 5km North of Bermagui and about 9km from the start of the walk in Tilba Tilba.

No Parking at the La Galette site. Please drive further down the road.

According to local intel!, our man on the ground…parking is actually best on Corkhill Drive North or South side of La Galette. Parking on Corkhill Drive is limited and will potentially require a couple of hundred metre walk up to the start point.

Please be at La Galette area by 8.45am ready for briefing and start of walk at 9am. This will allow a timely walk for people travelling home post walk.

We have the option of a little off-track adventure through amazing granite tors. Be prepared for clambering over rocks and fallen trees. Caution: twisted ankles when too busy gaping at the stunning scenery!

Please ensure that you carry any medication that you require for a steep strenuous walk.

This includes supportive strapping, braces etc.

WHAT TO BRING: All the usual day walking gear such as stout walking shoes or boots, long trousers and shirt, sunscreen, hat, water resistant jacket, lunch and snacks, water and medications

MEETING POINT: For those coming on the day We will meet at Cooma North Carpark at 7 am.

COST: Car pooling from Cooma to Tilba Tilba and return. Approx 2 hours drive each way via Brown mountain.

COVID – 19 PROTOCOLS

In regards to our responsibilities in stopping the spread of COVID-19, the following protocols will be in place:

  • All participants are asked to adhere to social distancing measures
  • Maximum group size of 30 participants, so it is important to contact walk leader prior to the day of the activity
  • Please do not attend if you feel unwell or have been in contact with a known or suspected case of COVID-19
  • Please bring your own pen for signing onto our Walk Register
  • Also bring your own Hand Sanitiser
  • Car pooling allowed, masks recommended
  • Geehi Bushwalking Club will be obliged to make your name and contact details available to authorities if we are asked to assist with contact tracing
